Catastrophic Review: Fantastic Mr. Fox

Wes Andersen’s Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) has slyly made its way into my top 10 favourite animated films; that is quite an honour, considering he’s competing with the likes of Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata.

Fantastic is a playful and curious fusion of Roald Dahl’s rich and dark storytelling and Wes Anderson’s quirky style.  The furry woodland creatures come to life with the wonderful voice performances of the entire cast, but I especially loved George Clooney and Meryl Streep as Mr. and Mrs. Fox.

Although the stop-animation film is aimed at children, I’d have to say that it is possibly the most adult animated film I’ve seen to date.  It’s funny, it’s smart, and it has a stellar soundtrack.  It’s definitely worth 87min. of your time!
