Unfortunately, Las Vegas has long been misunderstood for being an adult playground and nothing more. To be honest, because of this I put off going to Las Vegas for as long as possible. However, our recent romp through the desert included stopping there along the way and back.
To my pleasant surprise, I discovered there’s far more to the city than The Strip. In fact, there’s a plethora of inexpensive tasty food beyond the main tourist area, including scrumptious Taiwanese style breakfast served at Yi Mei Champion Taiwan Deli and savoury tonkotsu ramen (豚骨ラーメン) from Monta Ramen. There are beautiful planned communities around the city and in neighbouring cities, such as Henderson, which has been voted one of the top 100 cities to live in the United States.
Of course you can always head out to Las Vegas Boulevard to soak in all the neon lights at night and there is no doubt that you’ll find world class acts there. But if you’re like me and prefer things a wee bit more on the quiet side, it’s nice to know that you can find places to explore and relax only a few miles beyond The Strip.
