E is for…

E is for Elgar, Edward Elgar to be exact.  He is easily my favourite English composer.  I’m sure you’re familiar with his Pomp & Circumstance March No. 1 in D (skip to 2:10 of the video for, if I’m not mistaken, what Americans would refer to as the ‘graduation song’):

Equally well known, or so I should hope, is Elgar’s Cello Concerto in E minor Op.85.  The first movement being my favourite, this is quite possibly the most beautiful cello concerto I’ve ever heard:
